ALSA highlights that more than 2.5 million households were on the National Housing Needs Register in 2023, while rapid urbanisation is increasing pressure on housing in cities and towns. With a reported shortfall of 3.7 million homes, many low-income households still struggle to access safe, affordable housing in well-connected urban areas.
These challenges also create a need to identify well-located land that may be suitable for responsible, well-planned affordable housing developments. The suitability of each site depends on its location, zoning, bulk services, access, market demand, feasibility and the relevant planning and statutory approvals.
